In this modern age, clean, potable water is quite accessible. Whether you want it straight from the tap, as bottled or natural spring water, or in mineral or alkaline form, you can easily have it delivered or bought from a convenience store.
So it’s surprising to know that there are people that suffer from dehydration.
A news story last year said that 75% of Americans suffer from this condition. In the UK, four patients die of it every day. Here in Australia, three deaths every week are caused by dehydration.
What happens when the body loses water
About 60 percent of the human body is made up of water. Even a slight change in this water level can get the body spiraling into dehydration, which happens when the body loses more water than it takes in.
This occurs particularly when one does not get enough bottled or natural spring water. The symptoms are easy to spot: Sluggishness, fatigue, and lightheadedness. Dark and yellowish urine. Tight skin. Dry mouth and throat.
Is the drinking water in your cooler contaminated? In the UK, residents have become concerned about water safety after recent news reports in the UK revealed that cocaine and other pharmaceutical compounds were found in the towns’ water supply. It’s a cause for alarm, especially for people who drink straight from the tap without using water filters.
Contaminated water supply
According to the news story, the UK’s Drinking Water Inspectorate found high quantities of caffeine and traces of the epileptic drug carbamazepine; common pain-killer ibuprofen; and benzoylecgonine, a metabolised form of cocaine, at four sites.
Benzoylecgonine is a form of cocaine that results when the drug has been processed by the human body.
California recently became the first American state to adopt a drinking water standard for hexavalent chromium, proposing a limit of 10 parts per billion. Brisbane has not set any standards for hexavalent chromium. Residents who are concerned about drinking water safety may find that bottled water Brisbane suppliers are their best option.
What is hexavalent chromium?
Does the Hollywood film Erin Brockovich ring a bell? If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll remember that it was hexavalent chromium which contaminated the drinking water in Hinkley, California, and caused residents to get sick. This eventually led to a multimillion-dollar class-action suit.
From as far back as we remember, we’ve always had fluoride in our tap water. In Australia, which is one of many countries in the world with water fluoridation programs, more than 70% of the population have access to fluoridated drinking water. Even before drinking bottled water became a habit for many of us, fluoridation had already been a practice in Australia since December 1953, just two years after the United States implemented it. Tasmania and New South Wales were among the first areas to start putting fluoride in their water.
While other people have chosen bottled water, many of us, for years, continued to drink our recommended 8 glasses of water every day with the knowledge that fluoride in our water was good for us. Continue reading
We all know we need to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, but what if you want to make the spring water supplied to your local Brisbane office or your home taste more interesting?
Spring water, in itself, has a clean, refreshing taste. However, there are many ways to make it more interesting. And if it helps you to get your recommended daily dose of water, that’s even better.
Drinking your recommended daily dose of water is one thing you should never neglect. If you’re like most people who are tied to their desks all day, you’re probably not visiting the water cooler enough.
It’s easy to dismiss the need to stay hydrated, in the same way that we dismiss the necessity to exercise or eat enough fibre or pay the dentist a visit. But did you know that drinking enough water is essential to the body’s mechanism?
Here are five reasons why you need to get enough water every day. Once you’ve run through these five reasons, we can bet you’ll make doubly sure the water dispenser in your Brisbane office doesn’t run out of spring water.
Learning that spring water is the absolute best water to consume and how good it is for you is only part of the lesson in treating your body correctly. Sourcing the best-tasting water supply from a reputable supplier is the next step in hydrating your body to good health.
Many suppliers claim to offer the best quality spring water around but there is only one who makes it their job to offer the best service whilst bringing this life-giving water direct to you so you don’t have to hike for hours direct to the source.
“Drink plenty of water” is a message that we are all very familiar with, and we know the many benefits to be had when we give our bodies this vitally important drink from nature. Some people though may be a little unsure as to which water to drink.
You have heard about it or read about it so many times you probably can’t remember how often anymore: water is good for you. It is a life-giving, happiness-sustaining goodness that keeps your body running and your mind working at full capacity. Continue reading
What is really in our drinking water that comes through the taps? If you were to read about all the chemicals that are allowed to be placed in our drinking water to clean and detoxify it, then you would probably stop drinking water altogether. Chemicals such as aluminium sulphate, ammonia and chlorine; this is just three of the chemicals put into our water out of the 32 chemicals that are used. It is scary when you think about how much ‘poison’ goes into the water and it makes you wonder what it is doing to our bodies. Fortunately, there is a very good solution to this problem.
